The Rio Grande Initiative

In 2007 we set an ambitious goal to protect 25,000 acres along the upper Rio Grande and its tributaries over the next decade. Working together with numerous partners and conservation-minded landowners, RiGHT accomplished this goal and still continues to add to the corridor of conservation along the Rio. Now over 60 miles of stream is protected within this priority landscape. These conserved lands are among the most precious in the San Luis Valley, protecting the Rio Grande, senior water rights, a proud ranching heritage, and important habitat for migratory birds, threatened and endangered species, and iconic big game.
