Finding solutions for a sustainable aquifer in the San Luis Valley
RiGHT is dedicated to conserving the water resources of the San Luis Valley, and with increasing challenges facing the Valley’s aquifers, we are working on an innovative new program surrounding groundwater conservation. In partnership with Colorado Open Lands, RiGHT is spearheading new groundwater conservation easements with traditional land conservation tools being applied to groundwater pumping. Entering into a perpetual groundwater conservation easement allows landowners to be compensated for reducing their groundwater pumping. These easements are one important instrument within a larger suite of voluntary tools that groundwater subdistricts in the San Luis Valley can use to reduce groundwater pumping while maintaining community vitality.
